This house was donated to Habitat. We have been working on it for the last couple of weeks. We put in all new windows and doors.
We have painted most of the inside and are working on putting the kitchen together.
We installed the microwave yesterday. I cracked up because look how much wider that microwave is than the opening for the range. I told them they should have gotten an RV sized microwave. Everything in this house seems so small.
Wednesday, I worked on scraping many layers of paint off the door frames. As you can see, this kitchen has had many interesting colors in it's past. I got the door frames all cleaned up. Thursday, I patched the areas where the hinges were because we are not going to hang new doors. Most of the house is in fairly good shape but the bathroom was a total gut. The plumbers came out and put a camera down the sewer lines. That was pretty cool. We had to replace some of the main line, but most of it was pronounced good to go.
Thursday afternoon, we wrapped the house in Tyvek house wrap. I expect by the time I return next week the vinyl siding will be installed.
This is the first rehab I have worked on. The other houses have all been new. I really like it. This little house is going to make a nice home for someone and it will be good to see it all fixed up.

I think that is a very cool thing you are doing :) There has to be a lot of self satisfaction in completing a rehab like that...for everyone involved. Great work!
ReplyDeleteDitto what Gail said!
ReplyDeleteHabitat is just a wonderful organization and all the volunteers so generous with their time to help those who need housing. Why aren't these sorts of things filling up the nightly news stories rather than death, destruction and disaster? It's a wonderful thing you are doing.
ReplyDeleteWell done--rehab is very hard work but the end result is very gratifying! This is a very good thing you're doing for a family who will be so appreciative!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know HFH did rehabs. What a great way to make the dollars go further. You sure are a special person to donate your time to this wonderful organization. You're making a difference, one home at a time. :c)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on taking on such a wonderful project. It is going to make some deserving family a wonderful place to live.
ReplyDeleteSo nice of you to donate your time and talent. This donation of time and talent will last for years to come.
