Let the fun begin

I got home from New Mexico.  My brother and I worked out a new lease on the farm and I saw my mom several times.  She continues to do well.  The first three times I saw her in the afternoon and she did not know me.  The last time I saw her in the morning and I could see in her face that she recognized me- then she got mad when I left :).

We spent Sunday finishing up the kitchen packing.  Catherine had most of it done by the time I got home.

Here are some before pictures.  Since we will be consumed with this the next few weeks.  You readers will probably get tired of the reno right along with us.

Here is the first days work.
Taking out part of the wall.  making the opening for the bar area larger- better to see the water.  All cabinets  and appliances gone.  The fridge has been relocated to the living area.
They built us a big plastic wall with a zipper in it to keep the dust out of our living area.  It really did a good job.  The only drywall dust was what I tracked in going back and forth.

We talked to the folks at Ft. Desoto and they said if we come in on Monday we should not have a problem getting a site for four days. The weekends are a different story.  We would probably just put the breeze back in storage for the weekend. We have not decided if we are going to do that or just keep a few bucks in our pocket and live with the construction.

  1. We've never had any reno done to our homes. I know it would be hard on us to stay there while the work was being done, but yet you want to see what's going on every day.

  2. Tough week with the RV Supershow in town to get into most any park:o(( We hope you share lots of photos since we don't have to "live" with the noise and mess!! Hope all goes well and I'm sure the aggravation will be well worth it!!

  3. Oh, I think you will get sick of it WAY before any of us do :) We can admire from afar.

  4. I really like seeing all the reno progress pics so please keep them coming. Hope that plastic wall keeps the drywall dust away - I hate that stuff.

  5. Fort Desoto is a great get away choice. What a beautiful place. But it is true that you want to see what's going on. How long is it expected to take? I'm excited and it isn't even my kitchen.

  6. We have suffered through a remodel and it was so worth it. Can't wait to see the finished product

  7. I know it was hard in your visits with your mom. My last memory of my mom before she totally descended into the pit of Alzheimer's was her glaring at me across the Thanksgiving table because she didn't know me and saw me as an unwelcome stranger. I had to keep reminding myself it was no longer her.

On the bright side, your reno will be well worth the dust and discomfort. It's nice to do the upgrades while you're going to be living in the condo instead of doing upgrades to sell it like I did for selling my house. :c)

  8. I'm glad you had a nice visit with your Mom, but it must have been hard to leave since she remembered you.

Often at the gym I watch kitchen reno's on the tv while on the treadmill, so I'll be interested in seeing yours. Good idea to make more window to see the water.

I wouldn't want to be in the house with all that going on, but I also wouldn't want to leave workers alone in my house either.
