Saturday, we went to Clearwater Beach to view the sand sculpture contest. Six master sand sculptors were competing for a $5000 prize.
The sculptures were finished on Friday. Unfortunately, someone got past security Friday night and damaged several of the pieces. I don't know why people do those things. However, it made it more interesting for us because we got to see several of the teams working to repair their entries.
It was a really nice display. The dragon was my favorite. I am not sure which sculptor won or if the prizes have been awarded.
It was not a great beach day- cool and overcast. It is rare that you see the row of beach umbrellas on Clearwater beach folded on a Saturday afternoon. That sugar sand is still beautiful - even on an overcast day.
Sunday, we took Grace to the dog park and then came home and rented "Hitchcock" from the Redbox. We really liked the movie. Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirren were both really good.
Tonight, we are joining a friend for dinner and Wednesday we are joining our Canadian friends for a hockey game. The Leafs are in town. Another busy week .....
What do they use on the sand so it stays like that and just doesn't fall down? Water?
ReplyDeleteYes, just plain old water-amazing
DeleteThose are amazing. I'm with Judy, how do they make them stay so beautifully and why in the world would anyone want to ruin them? What do they get out of ruining that beautiful art?
ReplyDeleteBut you are right that the bright side was you got to see the artists repair the creations. I would love that. I assume people were there watching them on Friday too. Have to put this on my calendar. Thanks for the heads up. You two are the busy bees. Glad to see you having lots of fun and Grace too.
Amazing Sand Sculptures!!!
ReplyDeleteThose sculptures make me feel unworthy. Seems I never graduated beyond one pail of sand turned up side down. ;c)
ReplyDeleteMagnificent! It's too bad there are vandals everywhere. Sad.
ReplyDeleteThose sand sculptures are awesome! Thanks for sharing.
