Livin the Dream!

Saturday, we went for a boat ride with our real estate agent and her boss (pictured left).  It was really nice. He took us all around the Apollo Beach area. His father in law developed much of the area and he was a great tour guide.

We have always dreamed of a place on the water.  When we lived here before, it was not affordable and not practical.  Now that housing prices are more reasonable and we don't have jobs to drive to everyday,  we are investigating the possibilities of "Livin the Dream."  So, far we have seen some things we like but nothing "just right."

Sunday, we went to the Tarpon Springs Fine Art Festival.

It was downtown in Craig Park.  A beautiful setting.

There were lots of very good artists with works on display.   Unique to Tarpon springs is Nicolas Toth. He is billed as "the last helmet maker."  His diving helmets are now sold as works of art.  However, he assured us that they could be used.  Tarpon springs is known as "The Sponge Capital of the World". A large influx of Greek immigrants settled here to harvest sponges.  These were the traditional diving helmets they used.  The craftsmanship is extraordinary.
In addition to fine art, there were also some sponges for sale.  It is really a fun, unique community to visit.

After touring many many art booths, and eating some pretty decent Greek food at the fair.
We headed back to the RV park and had a quiet afternoon.

  1. We recently stopped through Tarpon Springs and were delighted with this community. I can understand your reasoning to look for a place there. It's one of a few communities in FL that I'd consider. After living a lifetime in WI I sometimes wonder how it was that we never headed South permanently.

It's amazing how the sponge industry has morphed even over my short lifetime. But what hasn't changed over the last 60 yrs?

    Cheers,
