Dog Days of Summer

We have hit the "dog days".  It is really, really hot.  We have not done much except read and volunteer.  I read "Animal Dreams" by Barbara Kingsolver. I usually read all of hers but somehow I had missed that one.  It is set in Arizona in the Mesa Verde area so it fit in nicely with our summer travels.  I also read Sycamore Row by Grisham.  It was good.  It is kind of a sequel to "A Time to Kill"-same characters but a different story.
Our habitat project is rolling now.

We have windows and doors.  As of today a garage door. The outside stucco has been completed. This week we installed the soffit and facia. That was some seriously hot work.

Inside-drywall, texture and paint, makes my arches look really good.

Catherine is volunteering at the library on Mondays.

The painters on our building are moving pretty quickly now.  We expect to have them on our balcony next week.  That should be a rodeo trying to explain to Grace that it is OK for these guys to be on our patio.  We may just have to drop the hurricane shutters and live in semi-darkness.
We took the breeze out and filled her up with Diesel and added some fuel stabilizer. We got her all cleaned up inside and buttoned up.  She is probably parked for a while. When the weather is cooler, I will get her washed. We are trying to decide on our plans for next year's RV adventure. We plan to leave later and be gone until October, so we miss the "dog days" next year.

  1. Great arches :)

I enjoyed Sycamore Row too. I think A Time to Kill was his best book, so really enjoyed the sequel. Hope he does another.

  2. Sad to have to put away the Breeze, but it's good to know you have it ready to go at the drop of a hat.

Those arches turned out wonderful! You are becoming an artist with your talent. :c)

  4. I remember all too well the "dog days". We had them in spades in Virginia. So happy not to have to do that any more and hope you two don't either. The habitat house looks fantastic and especially those arches. Wow is all I can say about how cool they look. Hope Grace can relax during the painting. I'd suggest a gin and tonic but ............

  5. Nice job on the Habitat house - it looks great.

I liked Sycamore row as well. If you haven't read any books by Greg Isles, I'm sure you'd really enjoy them as they are also set in the south (Mississippi/Louisiana).

  6. Too hot here in NC too. Next year, we'll stay north a little longer. Think about Maine in the"heat" of summer. Maybe 80 for a high.

    1. We really want to go to Maine but we also feel that we need to go out west to spend time with Mom and Catherine's folks.
