With only 29 days left, I decided to leave work a little early and head over to Chevy's for the Cinco de Mayo celebration. Catherine and I were in charge of saving a table. When we arrived, it was sunny and warm and just a bit breezy. So, we got a drink found a table with a little shade and were listening to the music waiting for some friends from work to arrive.
Then we heard:
This little killdeer was just having a fit. She had a nest in one of the parking medians. The parking lot had been fenced off with a big tent for the party. The staff put chairs over the nest and she was frantically trying to keep people away. One of the staff members came over and built a better make shift shelter for her nest and tied it down with plastic netting so people could not move the chairs. Can you spot the eggs? They look just like rocks.
She was still quite fussed. Then a big storm blew in and everyone crowded under the tent. Moving all the tables and chairs away from her nest.
We moved inside had some Margaritas and Mexican food and enjoyed the company of friends. The party is going on all weekend. I hope this little mama makes it through. I am wishing she had built her house next to a BBQ joint.
See you down the road....
Killdeer lay their eggs in the darndest places. :)
ReplyDeleteWow, that is amazing...those eggs really do look like rocks. Never saw a Killdeer before and of course, never saw a nest with eggs. Great photos!!

Oh how cute she was! Same here, I never saw one before!
ReplyDeleteI just love this and the consideration of the staff for the bird. Really nice to hear of concern for other species and their rights too.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures. Thanks for the post.
Oh and I'm glad you two had a good time!! :-)

Why didn't you offer the Killdeer a Margarita? That would have helped calm her down. ;c)
