Stuff...
I have been in New Mexico for the last few days staying with my mother. She has Alzheimers. My stepfather needed to go to his granddaughter's wedding. I have spent my days here cleaning up and trying to throw stuff away. And I have to say, life in the RV has never been more appealing. My mother was a successful business woman and built a nice house and has a lot of nice "stuff". Now she has no ability to decern trash from treasure. The house and property are older and large and require more care and attention than my parents can give it. It makes her very anxious to have hired help in or around the house. Needless to say - there is lots to do and all that "stuff" is now a burden.
For me, the lesson is: Spend money enjoying life, not on "stuff". At the end of the road, you probably won't care whether it came from Target or Tiffany.

Here here!!! Truer words were never spoken.
ReplyDeleteYour mother is a lucky woman to have you to help her. May we all be as lucky when we can no longer do for ourselves.

Sometimes I think Alzheimers is harder on the caretakers than on those being taken care of. Hang in there...
ReplyDeleteAmen Sister.
ReplyDeleteThe STUFF really has little meaning, when you think about it.

This post really got to my heart. My favorite uncle had this nasty disease so I know just how horrible it is. My prayers are with you and your Mother....especially you because you know what has been lost. But, all is not lost as long as you remember. One day at a time...the only way to live.
