Another Item Off the Bucket List

Xmas tree at Rockefeller Plaza
It has been a long week.  I had a week long meeting north of New York City.  Catherine has always wanted to see NYC all decked out for the holidays.  So, Catherine came up on Thursday and we spent 3 days doing the holiday sights in the big Apple.

It was truly spectacular.  The tree at Rockefeller center was beautiful. However, it was extremely cold and after we walked around for several hours Thursday night. It took us quite a while to thaw out.
The window displays were not as exciting as we had expected.  Barney's  had windows done by "the food network" which were fun and Lord and Taylor had some very nice displays with personal stories of "Favorite Christmas past from the employees" which were very nice. Many of the others were clearly the same displays used every year. Still very nice but not "spectacular."  We did not do much shopping but I did buy a nifty ear warmer at the Orvis Store on 5th Ave.  I think it will come in very handy in our RVing future.

On Friday night we went up to the top of the Empire state building. It was snowing 86 floors above the ground.

The good thing was that it was not as crowded as it has been on past visits and we could actually see quite a distance.
On  Saturday we visited Santaland at Macy's and yes we visited Santa. Then we went to the Apple store to check out what Catherine wants for  her birthday ( the day after Christmas)  What a great store! Open 24hrs!  They had benches full of all the devices that you could play with to your hearts content.  We will be going to get Catherine an Iphone this week.  I was enamored with the Ipad but will wait for a while to purchase.
We also took in a matinee on Saturday -  A little night music with Bernadette Peters and Elaine Stritch.  It was a good performance and we enjoyed the show very much.
We managed to get home only an hour late on a rough flying day. All in all a good trip.  Thanks for visiting.
