Maintenance goes ….OK.. but not perfect.

We tried a new place for yearly maintenance on the Breeze.  We had an appointment for last Tuesday for oil and fuel filter change for both the breeze and the generator.   We dropped it off Monday PM with the thought that we would pick it up Wednesday. I called on Wednesday and they said they had to order the fuel filters and it would be ready Monday( closed for the easter weekend).  Ok- I can live with that.  We did not hear from them Monday.  My habitat project is near there and I stopped by on Tuesday before starting at habitat.

What is going on with my coach?   "It is finished"  Great! "Except it won't start"  What?  "It turns over but it won't run, We put the computer on it and it has no fuel pressure.
We have a call in to Tiffin"  "We will let you know"

(This is the point when I should remember to call my Dad.  He always knows what is wrong. But for some reason, I can't think to call him.)

Tiffin diagnosed the problem and after a day of phone calls. They got the fuel system primed again.  It seems that our coach takes a replacement cartridge  as a fuel filter and sometimes it can air lock.  They had to hook the computer up to the coach and manually prime the fuel to get the air out an the fuel in.

We picked it up this morning and it ran a little rough at first but then it smoothed out. Overall, I am glad I used Performance Maintenance.  Even though they had a problem, they called Tiffin, figured it out, and downloaded the software program from IH on our engine to be able to get the fuel system primed.

Oh yeah, and  whenI called my dad.  He says -"sometimes when you change a fuel filter on a diesel they will air lock.  There is always a way to prime them or to bleed the air out." I would have been a lot less cranky if I had realized it was an easy fix- note to self- call dad!

In the end, it is all good.  The breeze is back in her storage place.  Doug at performance maintenance and I have become fast friends.  I think they need to work on communication, but overall they got the job done at a fair price.

Friday I will organize the bins and give her a wash- starting to plan for summer departure :)

  1. Lucky lucky you to have a father you can call who is there and knows his stuff. Sweet! Glad you've broken in this repair group. Now you can use them regularly.

  3. Oh boy, I guess they don't work on too many diesels. At least they got everything up and running to your satisfaction. Nothing better than having a knowledgeable Dad! :c)

  5. I'm beginning to hate whenever the coach has to go in for anything. Safe journeys wherever your summer travel takes you.

  7. Same thing happened to us. Al decided to change fuel filters. Picked them up from Cummins. They told him to add some fuel to the filter. He did and the coach wouldn't start. So THEN, we read the manual and it told us how to change them on our particular coach. RTFM is my motto. Glad all worked out. See you in September.
