We actually have been pretty busy. We got a new sofa. We recovered our bar stools. We got our Library renovation project approved by the Master Board at the condo. I have done lots of habitat days and Catherine has done lots of driving patients and volunteering at the St. Pete Beach library. We have enjoyed many many beautiful sunsets. However, none of that inspired me to do a post.
Yesterday, was a day for blogging. We got up early- took Grace to the Vet for a day stay and headed to Myakka to meet Nancy, Bill, Sherri and David for a hike to the Deep Hole. We arrived in Sarasota plenty early so we were able to make a stop for a post hike treat- more on that later.
Bill had the permit in hand when we got there and we set off for the hike.
Nancy spotted this Red-Sholdered Hawk, not long into our walk. I did not do a good job taking pictures of the people- just take it from me- We all looked good :)
I did get a shot of David, Cowboy Bill and Catherine leading the way into the canopy.
Deep hole is the place for gators. It is a reliable water hole, even in a dry year. However, it has not been a dry year. So, deep hole was not so much a hole as an extension of the lake.
We also saw a young eagle
A camera shy spoonbill
A limpkin
And of course …
The feral hogs…
It was a great hike with good friends.
We returned to Nancy and Bill's campsite, had a good visit, and helped Bill with a small project.
After all that, it was time to enjoy the treat we brought.
A cherry pie from Yoders in Sarasota. It was very good- not too sweet. We tried to leave the leftovers but they sent the last two pieces home with us. David said it would be a great breakfast- he was right :D
We had a great day! It was fun to see everyone again.
We also got a fantastic sunset, when we got back to the condo. A perfect finish.
Today, we are watching the pirate ships go by as they head to Tampa to invade the city for Gasparilla. We will skip it again this year. We plan to do laundry and watch it on TV.
So wonderful to see you guys and spend some time with you. It seems like forever. Thanks again for the great pie. David gave it a thumbs up and he's a picky cherry pie eater. Hope my pictures turn out as well as yours if I ever get caught up enough to do a post on our hike. Hope it won't be as long until we see you again.
ReplyDeleteI find nature so much more fun to photograph than people... you did a great job!!! So glad you were able to come and that cherry pie was fantastic. We'll have to work on our blueberry picking and pie making skills in Maine!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt was nice that you got to do a hike with friends.....and a cherry pie too. Yummy..
ReplyDeleteYou couldn't find nicer fun folks to go hiking with. I'd love to go hiking with them, they know all the names of the birds, flowers and other animals. It would be like walking with encyclopedias... :cD
ReplyDeleteLove the sunset photos!I like pie for breakfast, i can burn the calories through the day.
ReplyDeleteThat's my kind of breakfast! :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great day.
