We had a busy week. I worked two days on the new habitat house and Catherine worked at the library and drove for the American Cancer Society. On Friday, we left Grace in day care and headed out for a day at Disney.
Epcot is having their annual Food and Wine Festival. It is one of our favorite events.
Chef Mickey greeted us and we were ready to get tasting. We started with a sorghum based beer at the vegan booth. It was OK. I would not have it again.
I had a really good steak on a stick with chimichurri sauce and mashed potatoes from Patagonia as my first taste. I washed that down with a Cold-Nose Brown Ale from Florida- very good. Catherine got a margarita from Mexico and had the vegetarian haggis from Scotland. I think veggie is the only way to go with haggis. It was actually pretty good.
We usually wait until October to do this festival but the newspaper alerted us to a time sensitive situation at Epcot. The Maelstrom will be closing next week. The ride will be revamped as the "Frozen" ride.
So, it is "Farvel" to vikings, trolls, and polar bears and "Hei" to Olaf, the snowman. Full disclosure- we have not seen the movie "Frozen". However, I am feeling a little sentimental about the trolls. I will miss them but I am sure the new ride will be much more appealing to the next generation of theme park junkies.
After we rode the Maelstrom one last time, we continued around the world tasting treats from: Greece, France, Italy, and South Korea. We had light rain off and on all day. But, when the thunder and lightning started, they shut down all the food booths and we decided it was time to head home.
We pretty much dodged the rain on the way home but the skies opened up soon after. We have had a ton of rain in the last couple of weeks. It has been cooler but we are getting a little tired of it.
I think I'd have to go for the Steak on a Stick (which is new to me) over veggie Haggis! In fact, I'd go for a Corn Dog over a Veggie Haggis!
ReplyDeleteMust be nice to be able to pop-over to Disney World for a day. We couldn't be any farther away from there. Loved it the one time we visited though.
Sorghum beer? Hummmm
ReplyDeleteI sure haven't missed the Florida rain and heat. Glad to hear its cooling down.
Now, I gotta go Google Haggi.
Don't worry, there are trolls in "Frozen" :-). Love the Food and Wine Festival, used to go every October...it is one thing I do really miss since going on the road and working at Amazon in the fall!
ReplyDeleteI've never been to Disney World, and I doubt I ever will. It just doesn't have the pull for me that is does for so many others. That being said, I think I would have enjoyed the taste testing though.
ReplyDeleteAny Day at Disney is so much fun... your's look great!! It's been raining in South Carolina for a week also;o((
ReplyDeleteYou're certainly styling in those rain slickers. Wouldn't be surprised if you've started a new fashion trend! ;c)
ReplyDeleteOne of these days we'll get to the Food and Wind Festival, never seems to be the right time for us. :c(
Sounds yummy! I really want to go. I think I need for you two to make reservations for me at Disney. Since you are such regular customers you might have pull. I can send you the dates. LOL
ReplyDeleteA day at Disney is always a good day!
