Aransas NWR, Birding Center

Monday, we visited the Aransas NWR.  It was a windy day but the sun did appear just as we got to the refuge.  There were some gators out in the pond.

We also saw some deer and this racoon moving through the grassland.

We saw another very large 1000 year old Oak tree.  This one we could walk under and Catherine gave it hug - just for you Sherry :).

As we made our way around the park, we saw a Crested Cara Cara and an American Kestral.  At the end of the road, we climbed the boardwalk and saw some whooping cranes, but they were pretty far away.

Black Necked Stilts
This morning we went to the birding center.  On Wednesday mornings, a group of birders bring out their scopes.  That is really nice It lets us get a better view than we can with our binoculars.  It was a pretty good day.

American Avocet

We saw a few new birds.  We saw a Yellow-Crowned Night Heron and we finally got to see the Black Bellied Whistling Duck - but I was not quick enough with the camera. The highlight was this flock of spoonbills that put on quite a show for us.

The time is also flying by here in Port A.  We only have two weeks left.   We are off to see something new!

The End!

  4. You end picture is hilarious! Great shot!

I see Catherine has perfected the tree hugging technique that Sherry uses. It's nice that we can learn good things from each other. :c)
