The original plan for the day was to go work on the RV. Take over some stuff we had purchased, install a shoe rack and shower head. Having little experience with deep snow, we thought a 50 degree day was the solution to all winter woes. Turns out that the storage facility is still snow packed, muddy, and the battery was dead on the RV. OK- we need a little more sun on the RV situation. Still, it is a beautiful day-- so what to do. Go look at more eagles :). Only problem is-- they were having a great day too. We saw a lot of eagles but most were soaring instead of posing for photos.
I managed to get the one above in flight. I also got some nice pics of "nothing but sky" :). These guys on the right were having a nice al fresco dining experience on the Mississippi river.
This one was just hanging out enjoying the cool ice.
We drove up to Grafton had lunch and drove back and all the eagles were either far away or soaring over the cliffs. Not that I blame them, it was too pretty to just sit around the house.
I took a picture of the bird to the right just as we headed for home. I can't seem to zero in on the identity in the bird book.
I had decided that I would find some hawks on the way home for pictures and be happy with that and the beautiful day.
I spotted one up ahead in the trees and told Catherine to drive slow so I could get a picture. When what to my wondering eyes should appear but a bald eagle just sitting there as big as you please by the road with no branches blocking my view.
And that was a great ending to a beautiful day. Hope everyone has a good week. We are heading to Florida for the long weekend so I am sure we will get a warm up.
With that belly band, I would guess either a red-tailed hawk or a rough-legged hawk. Can't see the tail well enough to know for sure. :)
ReplyDeleteAny day observing eagles is a good day in my book!
Great picture of the Eagle. Really majestic bird.
ReplyDeleteThis looks like WAY more fun than working on the RV no matter how many things need doing. :-) Hope its getting warmer where you are.
