A good place to find those folks is in the Saint Louis Zoo. If you are ever in this part of the country, we highly recommend a trip to the zoo. It is one of the finest zoos in the country. And, admission is free!
That is one of the really nice things about Saint Louis. Many of the attractions (art museum, botanical gardens, zoo) are all free. In the winter months, the zoo has a penguin parade on Sunday afternoons. The Penguins parade down a 500 ft walkway out in the open.
It was 30 degrees outside but the crowds came out for those penguins. The kids loved them and they put on a good show. I am always amazed at the large size of these birds.
The picture below with the little girl gives good perspective. The kids never seem to be scared even when the birds are as big as them.
The birds don't mind the gawking crowd. They walk in between legs and rub up against people. They even do a little gawking of their own.
The bird below was very interested in the camera. They were also trying to get in the snow but the handlers gently guided them back on to the path.
It was a great way to get outside for a few hours even if it was quite cold. The other
animals were all inside. So we decided to take a clue and get home where it was warm. See you down the road....
Great post, and thanks for the info. I had no idea the SL zoo and other places of interest were free. Stay warm.
